New Orleans, LA – Updated May 4, 2024 – The BLK INK Book Festival is back for its second year, promising an unforgettable experience for book lovers of all ages and backgrounds. Taking place on Saturday, May 11, 2024, from 11 AM to 3 PM at the City Park Pavilion of the Two Sisters, this four-hour live event will showcase the vibrant literary scene of New Orleans and beyond.

With over 75 authors participating, attendees can explore a diverse range of literature spanning various genres, including romance, sci-fi, women’s literature, urban fiction, poetry, and children’s books. Over 100 books will be displayed, offering something for every reader’s taste.

But the BLK INK Book Festival is more than just a book expo—it’s a celebration of creativity, culture, and community. Attendees can immerse themselves in New Orleans’s rich cultural heritage by connecting with and experiencing on-stage interviews with featured writers, including Louisiana native, New York Times and USA Today bestselling romance author Farrah Rochon; fantasy author Alex Jennings; native author, folklorist, and Louisiana Poet Laureate (2021-23) Dr. Mona Lisa Saloy, and poet, author, filmmaker and teacher Kalamu ya Salaam. In addition, a local DJ will play music throughout the event and live readings and storytelling will take place in the Botanical Garden.

The event is open to all authors and artists, regardless of race, religion, sex, or sexuality, embodying the spirit of inclusivity and diversity.

“We are excited to host this amazing event again in New Orleans, especially on Mother’s Day weekend,” said Michelle Jackson, New Orleans resident, event coordinator, and founder of Direct2Author.com. “Literacy is an important issue that brings people together, and we’re proud to provide a platform for authors and readers to connect and celebrate the power of storytelling.”

Last year’s festival drew in 75 authors from across the country and over 500 attendees, and this year’s event promises to be even bigger and better. Author and artist exhibit booths are available, allowing participants to showcase their work to a wide audience. Additionally, the first 100 guests will receive a free tote bag, courtesy of the organizers, and free books will be given away throughout the event.

The activities will kick off at 11 a.m. at the Pavilion of the Two Sisters located at 1 Victory Avenue, New Orleans, an indoor European-style venue known for its picturesque backdrop of the city’s Botanical Garden. Throughout the day, guests will enjoy author interviews with Jennings, Rochon, Saloy, Salaam and special guest author USA Today bestselling author Naleighna Kai and the Reading in the Garden series featuring live book readings by BLK INK authors.
